Auto-SEwOrdizer (automatic Search Engines words Optimizer)

Just launched.

Does it even need an explanation? :) Okay, it does. So, it’s a tool for SEO mostly, where you can see words that related sites use, but yours don’t. Do I need to explain how it can be used? :)
It’s located under Categorizer on your pages, see Steven’s site for example: http://therarestwords.com/newton-le-willows.com

The Craziest Ideas

I’ve had this idea for some time and there it goes in a few hours work. All sorts of crazy ideas, products, jobs (wanna be Babes Appraiser or Vacation Senior Consultant?) :)
Have fun: http://thecraziestideas.com/ It’s crazy - you’ve been warned :)

Google is actually using a similar algo for domain name splits

Today someone mistyped my domain as thherarestwords.com - note two “h” and going to that link from url I’ve noticed something interesting. Both my algorithm (that I’ve described here) and Google’s one made the same major mistake with only a minor difference.

Notice both algorithms got “rest” and “words”, but not “rarest” as it’s a very rare word. So that makes me think that google is doing it the same way as mine algo does :) We just might have a little difference in coefficients in weighting evalutaion.

Mein Gott! Und guten Abend!

The German (what appears to me to be) IT site heise.de has just published (what appears to me [from rough translation] to be) a short review of the project, which results in crowds swarming in. Actually it looks like a new visit each other second.

Well, welcome, German friends, and have fun! :) (In a darker tone: while the server holds) :)

Two simple improvements

Hardly worth a note, but just a “heads up”.

1) Domains are now shown in separated form (when found out how) - i.e. belfastjobs.com → Belfast Jobs .com - the explanation and algorithm were here.

2) There is a progress bar at the top which shows amount of definitions we have against the way to go. Also it shows some random largely blank sites, so that you can have fun defining new stuff, instead of fighting in crowded spaces :)
We have 10 years ETA at the current rate :)

TechCrunch’ed!

TechCrunch just published a really interesting article by Erick Schonfeld about my project in coop with Mircea Goia (our regular contributor to The Rarest Words)! Read it! Mircea, thumbs up! Thanks! :)
And I was actually trying to roll-out a new feature - real-time defined words stats, but I made a little mistake, which resulted in slight CPU overload for each user.. and then TechCrunch guys came in. A little overload multiplied by a couple hundreds resulted in near-death experience for CPU.

So now we’re just holding on and new features roll-out is planned for tomorrow.

“Explain” thingy in Javascript

Since I have so much to explain about the site for the newcomers, but really don’t have the space for it - I wrote a simple library to do that.

It’s free for download under the cut.

New feature: MySite!

I’ve always thought that entering only definitions from your own page when I can only index a single page from each site - it’s too limiting, so here’s the solution.

Now you can enter your url into the form under the menu and anywhere you enter something - is linked back to that site’s page!

I think the regulars will benefit from this.

It’s also would be useful as a kind of credit system for later. I’m thinking of maybe launching AdSense revenue-sharing with those who fill the site - the percentage in that case would be built on basis of that credit system.
